Bee Beds & Beerocks

It was 98 degrees in Fresno today, a new record for this time of year. It's hard to believe that tomorrow is Earth Day! It feels like summer, not spring. But spring it is, and the flowers are blooming everywhere. The pollen counts are high and the bees have their work cut out for them. Toby likes to watch them buzz from one blossom to the next, resting gently on the pink petals for a few seconds before moving on. He's started calling the flowers, "bee beds"; a toddler gem I thought was just too cute not to share.

Also, anyone ever hear of "Beerocks"? I hadn't until I moved here. I've heard that they are also called "Bierocks," outside of Fresno, which I had also never heard of before I moved here. From what I gather, it's an individual beef and cabbage pie - a sort of hamburger baked inside it's own bun. I took Toby to "The Beerock Shop" for lunch, but there was a really long line of people queueing up to buy these things. It was too long of a wait to get to the cash register so we ended up leaving. I was holding Toby in my arms, and they were starting to shake, and he was starting to squirm, so we ended up leaving. Some other day, perhaps.
