Snack Time by the Park's Fake Stream

It's very hot here. Fresno Summers are not for the faint of heart. We were at the park earlier this morning and Toby was running around having a good time, and I remarked to one of the other moms, "Can you believe it? It's over 100 degrees and he's running around like a mad man!" and she said something about young children being a different breed - and then, all of a sudden, like a switch was turned on- all of a sudden, just like that, he realized it was ungodly hot! He wailed like he did when he had to have stitches in his lip two weeks ago! Wailed and sobbed, "H the hot." he said over and over again. "H the hot". I got him to calm down and convinced him to leave the park so we could go home and eat popsicles. But, in order to get him home I had to put him in the car, which must have been over 200 degrees - and he freaked out all over again. He fell asleep on the ride back and is napping right now - looking very comfortable in our air conditioned apartment.

Lucky, Ewww.

I was giving Toby a bath tonight and he says, "Dada, baseball," and I said, "yes sweetie Dada's at the Dodger's game tonight. He's seeing them in person, not on the TV, but in real life! And, if you are lucky, one day, I think he might just take you too."

Then Toby looked at me like I was nuts.

"Yucky?" he asked. "Ewwwww"

"No sweetie, lucky."

"Lucky. Ewww!" He said with a smile - and then threw the baseball themed rubber ducky at me.

Lucky, baseball ducky.

All clean!

Oliver is in Santa Barbara for the weekend, so Toby and I went to "the big, big park," just the two of us - Yosemite National Park

Woodward Park, Fresno

We've gone to Woodward Park twice already this week, because it's beautiful and we love it there.

The Geese situation can get a little intense. A little birdie must have told them we brought peanut butter and jelly sandwiches with us.

Toby took off one of his shoes and threw it in the lake. Why I don't know, but we are down a pair of shoes now. We lost a shoe, and then found this one.

It's not the right size unfortunately. I have no idea what it says. I took Spanish in high school and college, but not enough, apparently, and "Free Translation . com" did not help with this one.

Did somebody say peanut butter and jelly sandwiches?

The squirrels, man, the squirrels are not shy either. Toby thinks they are great and gets within inches of them before I run over waving my arms about to scare them off. They are cute and all, but the hypochondriac mom in me wishes they'd keep their distance.

I took some pictures of myself too, because we have so few of them. I'm usually the one taking the pictures. Photographic evidence that I was also there:

I'm not wearing any make up though. It's summer and it's over 100 degrees here, so there's really no point. Besides, Toby wasn't wearing any either.

Happy Fathers' Day!!

We went out to breakfast at "Batter Up," a pancake joint with a baseball theme, and then headed on out to the zoo. The weather was beautiful today and we had a great time. Happy Fathers' Day sweetie!

Clovis/Fresno Farmers' Market

Toby and I went to the Clovis Farmers' Market today with a family that used to live in the apartment complex that we live in. They now live in the neighboring town of Clovis (still Fresno County) and had never gone to the Farmers' Market!

We had a great time. Well, their son slept through it all, loud live Country music and all - but those of us who were awake had a lot of fun - and Toby got to eat Fresno State's Ice Cream for dinner. He had ice cream for breakfast and dinner today. He spread it all over his face, probably in an attempt to cool down. It was 100 degrees today. I'm just glad he's still managing to eat with a busted mouth, that I'm letting him eat as much ice cream as he wants.

He's my cutie, and he doesn't have cooties.

Toby's lip scared one mom at the library this morning.

She was afraid that Toby was contagious and didn't want her daughter playing anywhere near him, or touching any of the toys that he had touched.

I didn't even bother telling her that his lip is fat because he fell, not because he has a cold sore, and she didn't bother talking to me, so that was that. She acted like I was contagious too. I decided I didn't want to talk to her, and consequently, did nothing to clear up the misunderstanding.

So, Toby got to play with whatever toys he wanted to - once he touched them, it was like the communal toys were exclusively his for the morning we spent at the library.

Score.

We rented a Thomas & Friends video, but I drove off with it on the hood of the car. When I figured it out and went back for it, several cars had already run over it and it had broken into a million pieces, and I felt pretty stupid. Hope that's not contagious too.

Ice Cream for Breakfast

So, last night, while I was at one of the knitting groups, Toby slipped in the bathroom and split his lip and gums.

Oliver called me right after it happened and one of the women from the knitting group drove me to the Urgent Care center to meet them. They were going to go to the ER first, but his bleeding stopped and we were told that the wait at the 24 hour Urgent Care place wouldn’t be as bad as the ER.

He needed four stitches, and it took three adults to hold him down for it. His gums look worse than his lip does, but the doctor said there wasn't any thing to do about that one, other than give it time to heal on it's own which is going to take a while.

He’s home and sleeping now, but I’m so wired on adrenaline that there’s no way I’m going to sleep anytime soon. Totally don’t care about the apple juice he spilled on my knitting earlier. All is forgiven.

I talked to my dad on the phone tonight, he’s an oral surgeon, and he gave me lots of tips for minimizing the scaring, and taking care of him the next few weeks. That was really cool. No permanent damage is expected, but I feel so bad for him and tonight was really rough on us too. Holding him down for the stitches was the hardest thing I’ve gone through since labor, and I wasn’t even the patient!

One of Toby's Household Renovations

He just can't stop breaking the blinds!
Photobucket

He knows he's not supposed to - and he just can't seem to help himself.

We have tried Scotch tape, white first aid tape, and duct tape... oh, and time outs, lots of time outs, but so far, none of them have worked.

I'm going to try to get my hands on some white electrical tape and try that next - or maybe plumbers tape.

Our living room is a fish bowl at the moment.

Go Grizzlies

What a day! We went to Chuck E. Cheese in the morning, Leland's birthday party in the afternoon, and then, and then, Grandma "Wheeze" came over to babysit, and we went out to a ball game!
