Dinner with Artur and Jen

Artur, my friend from college, lives in Oakland. He was in town for work this week, and posted about it on Facebook. I told him that I live in Sacramento now, and he said another friend of ours from college does as well! Turns out, our friend and former UCSC Maintenance Work Crew co-worker, Jennifer, is a lawyer now. She works in Sacramento, and owns a home in Natomas, which is just outside of Sacramento.

We all got together and had dinner on Thursday night, after not seeing each other for 10 years. We had a lot to catch up on - and it was great to see them.

Jen: "I can't believe you're a mom!"
Me: "I can't believe you're a lawyer!"
Jen: "I know. We're kind of like adults now.... Sort-of."
Me: I like the "kind-of-like" adults qualifier.

But seriously, when did that happen? And how could it have been 10 years?

Getting Ready for Winter

It's still pretty warm out, but it's starting to feel more like Fall everyday.

Grandpa Phillip & Grandma Suzanne Visit Sacramento

I'm the new Friday morning 0-5 year old play group coordinator for our neighborhood. This morning I organized a homemade/park-made, play-dough play-date, at the park by our house. It was very messy, and kinda crazy, but fun. I didn't take any pictures because there was too much going on, and too much that could go wrong if I wasn't careful. Water. Flour. Oil. Salt. Food Dye and lots of kids climbing over each other mixing all of that together, fighting over wooden spoons, and drinking out of other kids sippy cups. Chaos. But fun. The kids are super cute, stressful, but cute - and it's nice to get a chance to talk to other mom's, even if we get interrupted and distracted a lot.

We came home after that, scraped play-doh off of ourselves, and cleaned up as best as we could. The veggie box had come while we were out, so I put that all away - and waited for Oliver's dad to call because he and his wife were in town today. We get crappy cell phone reception at our house though, so I didn't get his calls. I called him up, just in case, because you never know with our house and cell phones. Sometimes we get calls, sometimes we don't. A couple of weeks ago Toby was playing with his blue plastic toy phone and asked, repeatably, into to the receiver, "Hello? Hello, are you there?" Apparently the reception is so bad that even imaginary cell phone calls are affected. Anyway, my father-in-law said that they were in Old Town and wanted to go to the train museum, so we got in the car - and then ran all over that place exploring and looking at trains.

Oliver's Dad and Step-mother were in town for a conference, so we got to hang out with them for a bit while they were in town. Oliver met us at the museum after work, and we all went to dinner together from there.

It was a fun day, but a long one too. Toby had a blast, but was exhausted. He fell asleep in the car on the way home - as soon as we left the parking lot!

A Bicycle Built for 2

When we went down to Santa Barbara to see my grandmother before she died, my mom gave me her bike, and got us a bike rack for the car so we could take Oliver's bike back with us.

Oliver's bike had some flat tires, that he's had patched up twice now, but he attached a seat for Toby. Once he gets new tires they'll be back on the road again - and they are so cute together on the bike!

Toby could not be more excited about biking with his dad.

He couldn't wait for his seat to be finished, before climbing on.

Grrr...

On Thursday, and again last night after I had corrected her the first time on Thursday, my stepmother, a runner, referred to the half-marathon I did yesterday, as "my walk." I'm a lot slower than she is, more of a jogger than a runner, but really?! Last night I lost my temper and went off on my dad, who insisted I took it the wrong way, and should not have been offended. I will not repeat what I said here in writing, other than to report that my response involved LOTS of profanity.

Yep - My visor makes my ear stick out sometimes - but it does a great job of keeping the sweat out of my eyes!

5 am, taking pictures of myself in our bathroom mirror. I blended a green protein smoothie the night before, kept in the fridge overnight, and took it "to-go" in this stylish former spaghetti jar here:
